Orlando set list

If you read Bon Jovi's Orlando set with a feeling of deja vu, you're not alone. It's almost the exact same set we've had at the previous three shows (Atlanta, Des Moines, and Columbus) -- Only this time, we didn't even get Someday I'll Be Saturday Night. Phil X is certainly capable of playing more than this so I'd say it's a case of Jon checking out ahead of Europe. Hopefully it was still a great show in person!

  1. Wow, 4 shows in a row with the same set list! However, the Orlando newspaper review was a good one and people on blogs also are saying that it was a great show....

  2. I have no doubt that these have probably been great shows, however as a die-hard I can't help but be disappointed to see the same set each night, especially when "not playing the same thing night after night" is what Jon has so publicly prided himself on.

I would have thought with Phil on board for these shows it may have been an opportunity to play more of the songs not considered "Richie Songs". Maybe throw in something (other than Runaway) from the first two albums as they said they would at the very start of the tour. Play 'Love's the Only Rule' and 'Thorn in my side' more regularly. Maybe try something like "If That's What it Takes"; "Two Story Town" etc etc...

  3. you can be disappointed with all you want. they have also "publicly prided" themselves on being responsible people who wont peace halfway through a tour because of a binge. oh wait, sorry, thats jon's fault too, he should have foreseen it and then instead of quickly patching it together among a bunch of youth listening whatever and other obligations, worked on Two Story Town (!).

  4. I think I understand what you wrote above... but it doesn't make much sense. If I read it correctly... Many, many people paid him well to put on a good show... not work with the poor or troubled youth or whatever (don't get me wrong, I am proud of him... that's awesome! but it is not his day job... not as long as he is charging $1800 for a single ticket). Playing Thorn and/or Love is the Only Rule is his day job.

And on a fanclub night no less... these people not only paid the outragous amount for tickets but also flight, hotel, and a Monday off of work. It is kind of shameful. One song is all it would have taken to give them something "special". Maybe just 1 song from the majority of the die hards favorite album, These Days? Is that too much to ask?

Phil X has the ability to learn whatever Jon wants to play. And they are all professional. All Jon has to say is "look over This Ain't a Love Song for tomorrow night" and though it may not be perfect, it will sure be a lot more interesting (and far better) than "Work For the Working Man" or "Lost Highway." Yes, he may need to go off auto pilot just long enough to perform the 1 or 2 songs that would make the die hards happy, but they are the ones that see multiple shows every tour so that 5-10 minutes might be a good investment for him.

The last few sets are not only short (for Bon Jovi standards) but they are also uninspired. This has nothing to do with Richie being gone. Jon is being lazy. He has checked out. One song... one fan favorite is enough to make it worth while to those paying him loads of money for 2.5 hours of ENTERTAINMENT, not to mention traveling.

  5. ... oh and to be fair, yes of course they are getting good reviews. Even on auto pilot they are far better live than any other band touring today. I am sure it is still very entertaining to those who have never seen them before.

But to those who have seen them multiple times on previous tours, or certain shows previously this tour, we know they are capable of so much better.

It's just a shame that the price of the ticket stays the same on bad night vs a good night. Because with these prices, we are paying for damn near perfection.

  6. I was at the Orlando show, and am also a die hard that has traveled to see many shows (this time I happen to live there). I must say that it was a great performance and Jon was very energetic and seemed to be having a good time, and I and the majority of attenders were having a blast and no one seemed disappointed AT ALL. I have noticed at some shows when he plays rareities it loses much of the crowd and Jon has to work to get them back, maybe he is finding this setlist working and just wants to avoid that... continued

  7. continued..However, that said, I do believe that those VIPers and die hards who traveled and paid for pit tickets deserve a little extra, as you say one song is all it would take!! I noticed some in the pit were holding up signs that said Hey God and some other requests, I think sometimes he should give into those requests knowing what these people have sacrificed to be there, over and over again. The band is perfectly capable, even with Phil X, to do audibles, so there is no excuse, except as you say Jon is just being again "complicated".

  8. He's complicated. And we get frusterated. Right or wrong... love or hate it.

Glad you had a good time! Well I guess I'll leave my signs at home for Milwaukee.

  9. As a fan since the 80s, i have to disagree! Last year, i went to both the Tampa show and the Miami show. This weekend, I drove up to Orlando. I thought Jon was Jon!!! While it was wierd without Ritchie, the show went on!!! He sang his ass off and the band sounded great!!! Never once did i think Jon or anyone else in the band was on "auto pilot"!!!!! So why the hate?? cuz he used the same set list??? U know, its gotta be hard to perform and perform well nite after nite without your best friend, whose been you right hand since the beginning!!!! So let them use the same set list!!!! Times are tough and they are on their 3rd leg of this tour!!!!! Enjoy the songs, enjoy the band or DONT GO!!!
    Thanks!!!

  10. As a fan since the mid 90s, I will go ahead and back down because you are obviously the bigger fan. :) There is no hate. I love this band... still. I sometimes feel I am chasing the band that put out These Days and I need to except they will never be that band again. But that is my problem not theirs... now back to the set discussion.

How many times have you seen them this tour? I have seen them 7 times this tour and I still have 1 more to go. I am in the pit for Milwaukee... so I am invested. If they offered refunds to those who think Bon Jovi is not Bon Jovi without Richie, I would have taken it. But being as it stands, all I can do is hope for the best.

I have no problem with them playing the same set a few shows in a row here and there... but they better should include 1 or 2 fan favorites. And I have seen Jon on autopilot a couple times. It happens. He is good at what he does though. He still smiles in the right places, dances here, winks there, but he just going through the motions. And 99% of the crowd leaves happy.

And times are tough, but he chose to go on.
