Bon Jovi Winnipeg set list 5/4/13

Bon Jovi's Because We Can tour only began in February and the new album What About Now was released in March, but it looks like the band (or Jon, since he comes up with the set lists) has already given up on all but three songs from it (including Amen, which is supposedly going to be the second single). It's like The Circle Tour all over again. At least my favourite song from the album (That's What the Water Made Me) is one of the songs that's getting played -- Hopefully (for me, anyway) it's still in the set by the time the band hits Australia in December.

Winnipeg was Phil X's second show filling in for Richie Sambora on this tour. Were you there?

  1. Ugh. I'm honestly not that excited to see them in Denver. Its a same 'ol same 'ol feel to it. 2nd tour in a row w/out RS. Totally get if there's issues- we're human. But the band's "deal with it" attitude is a major put off to me. That's my good time/$$ on spending on another Greatest Hits Tour. Don't play off that this is the best album evvvver, then not play anything from it at the show. We're not dumb.

  2. My first ever Bon Jovi show will be w/o RS. I was crushed at first but since I can't undo my very expensive plans, I will go and make the best of it. I know they will put on a good show. However, if this was the 2nd time in two tours that this had happened, I'd be absolutely furious.

The band is definitely caught in a nightmare with no win/win solution. I am thinking that they can't cancel without a lot of legal issues with promoters, insurance companies, employee contracts, etc. And canceling for fans like me who have to fly thousands of miles to the nearest show--well, canceling wouldn't help me much as I'd be out $$$ on non-refundable tickets.

However, they have to know that there is a point that their fans won't commit to future shows (especially any occurring in the March-April time frame). The band's reputation is taking a beating even with "the show must go on mentality."

  3. I wonder if some of the return to the old songs/playlist is that Phil isn't really familiar with the new album and they didn't have time to rehearse. I could just be making excuses.

    1. I don't think that's the reason, seeing as they had dropped a lot of the new songs by the end of the last leg.

  4. Have seen Phil X in the Circle Tour. I was disappointed before I got there. He is the perfect substitute, unassuming, good player, not RS, but good. Jon gave more that his usual 100% and the crowd was supportive. I must admit that that was probably because we knew where RS was and understood.
