Bon Jovi at iHeartRadio 21/02/18

Bon Jovi played a gig for iHeartRadio in New York which was streamed live on the web. It was a Thursday where I am and I was at work so I couldn't watch it as it was happening, but I did catch up later on. "When We Were Us", which will be on the re-release of This House Is Not For Sale, made its live debut.

Jon said he's had contact with Richie Sambora and Alec John Such and they're looking forward to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

It was also announced Bon Jovi will receive the iHeartRadio Icon Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 11.

Bon Jovi 12.12.12 Concert recap

As most of you probably know, Bon Jovi was one of the many acts that came together for six-hour extravaganza that was 121212: The Concert for Sandy Relief at New York's Madison Square Garden on December 12, 2012. It was simulcast on about 60 or so television networks internationally and streamed live on about 30 websites, not to mention covered extensively across social media as it unfolded (which is how I had to follow it from work on the other side of the planet!).

Jon channeled his 13-year-old self, joining Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band on Born to Run, before returning to the stage later with Bon Jovi and playing the following set:

• Livin' on a Prayer

Jon can't wipe the grin off his face. Neither can I. He's living a 70s kid's teenage dream. Hell, he's living one of MY teenage dreams, and I grew up in the 90s. I'd say he probably got the better deal too; I'm not that much of a Who Says basher but really, Jon gets to sing Born to Run while the Boss gets Who Says You Can't Go Home? :P

Richie Sambora October shows cancelled

Richie Sambora has cancelled his remaining October concerts (New York City, Philadelphia and Toronto) due to laryngitis. The following statement was posted on his website:

NYC, Philly, and Toronto Shows Cancelled
October 17, 2012

At doctor’s orders, Richie’s shows in New York City, Philadelphia and Toronto over the next week are currently cancelled. All tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.

Richie unfortunately had to cancel these performances due to direction from his doctors that he go on full vocal rest, as he is suffering from a case of laryngitis following a couple months of promotion for his recently released solo album Aftermath of the Lowdown, which included a run of sold-out shows in Europe. He is incredibly disappointed to not be able to perform for his fans this month.

“I was really looking forward to getting out there and playing my new record for people.” Sambora said. “Unfortunately, things come up in life that you cannot control. I hope my fans will understand. I’ll definitely make it up to them and look forward to seeing them soon.”

Keep checking back in for updates on rescheduled shows.

Not sure at this stage whether or not the shows in California in November will go ahead.

It was a peculiar morning for me... I'd had an inexplicably sleepless night before getting up an hour earlier than I needed to with a sudden urge to check my social networks... which is when I found out about this.

Hope Richie gets well soon (I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he is sick; however, there has been speculation that poor ticket sales are the real reason and that the Sambora camp is trying to save face). I'm pretty bummed for his fans too, many of whom were travelling to these gigs. There have been reports that the shows will be rescheduled for early 2013, but with a new Bon Jovi album and tour due then, I have my doubts. Even Bon Jovi had to cancel their Perth show in 1995 and didn't make it back again until 2008. But... fingers crossed.

Philly & NYC added to Sambora tour

The first US dates of Richie Sambora's Aftermath of the Lowdown tour have been announced:

The Philadelphia show will be at Electric Factory on October 18, while Best Buy Theatre will be graced with Richie's music in New York City on October 23.

Dry County, sound issues, and JBJ playing Dad in New York City (MSG 3)

Yes, I know I'm two weeks late for videos from Bon Jovi's Madison Square Garden show on March 5, 2011... What can I say? Love alone doesn't pay the bills. ;) I wasn't originally going to post vids from this show because while the set list was still good, it's not like they played something I haven't already showcased on this tour.

But I decided it was worth posting a couple of videos of this incredible "Dry County" from that night. Might well be one of the best versions they've done in recent years; everyone sounds great.



There were also technical issues at this show with the PA system dying as it had in Boston. Jon took the band off stage once he realised no one could hear anything.


And this is "Who Says You Can't Go Home" immediately after they returned to the stage. One of the very few times I will post a video of this song on Blame It On The Love, because I know how passionately many of you hate it. :P


The Doors' "Roadhouse Blues" is a cool song , but the real reason I posted this here was because of Jon's comment: "I gotta keep Jakey entertained over there so he don't play his DS game!" I guess when your father's just always been a rock star, it's not terribly exciting anymore. ;)

New York City (MSG) 3 set list

Unlike the night before in Uncasville, I don't think there was anything entirely unpredictable in Bon Jovi's return to MSG. That said, it was still a solid set; it'd be a pipe dream to get half this stuff in Perth, for instance. But apparently technical issues, a la Boston during "Love for Sale" and "Saturday Night" saw Jon angrily lead the band off stage before "Who Says". There was also reportedly no proper encore break (where the whole band left and returned) due to the forced break earlier the set.

If you were at this show, I'm keen to hear your thoughts on it.

Not Fade Away from Best Buy Theater

Here's Bon Jovi opening the November 10 YouTube webcast from New York City with "Not Fade Away". Maybe I'm affected by the fact that this was the rarest thing the band played, but I reckon this is a great opener for an intimate venue. Amazing build-up. How good is that Bo Diddley beat? And the only way Jon's one-and-a-half minute emotional death stare for the camera could be improved is if he glued his eyes open so he couldn't blink. :P

New York City (YouTube webcast) set list

Bon Jovi's promo gig at Times Square today was broadcast live on YouTube (and will be replayed twice every six hours for 24 hours, but I'm not sure of the times). The set was a pretty vanilla (and familiar!) from a diehard's perspective, especially after fans were asked to send requests, but obviously they were only planning to play stuff from the Greatest Hits which they can claim they did. I did actually think we'd get more 90s representation though. Oh well. It was a good performance.

Making November 10 a special event

So, most of us probably know about the November 10 Best Buy Theater/YouTube webcast, for which we the fans have been invited to help pick the set list. Anyway, Bon Jovi diehard Dante made an appeal on my Facebook page yesterday, for everyone to request rare songs in order to make it "a great bon jovi show not an ordinary show". Dante's suggestions included "Something to Believe In", "Only Lonely, "Let It Rock", "Dry County", "Hey God", "One Wild Night", "I Get a Rush", "Any Other Day", "Thorn In My Side", "Brokenpromiseland", and pretty much anything from Bounce.

I think most of us do want, and perhaps even expect, something special for the diehards. And a lot of people on Bon Jovi's YouTube channel have requested rarities. What isn't entirely clear to me is whether or not Jon considers Bon Jovi's entire discography to be fair game on the night, or whether he's just going to pick from tracks that are on the Greatest Hits.

Nevertheless, all we can do is log into YouTube, request a rarity and vote up or "like" the requests that feature rare songs, and hope for the best. We have two days left!

One of my criticisms about Bon Jovi in the past has been their sometimes dinosaur-like use of the Internet and social media, especially for a band that's so hell bent on staying relevant, so it's nice to see them trying things like this.

Seems Bon Jovi's performance on the Late Show with David Letterman on November 9 is also being broadcast live to (presumably American) iPhones and iPod Touch users via the VEVO app.

Jon joined Sugarland on October 18, 2010 in New York City for the American Express Unstaged event. With a bit of luck, "Who Says You Can't Go Home" will be uploaded to the Amex YouTube channel (Some of the other Sugarland songs are up). For now, the best I can do is this 1:48 snippet with dodgy sound:
