What Do You Got alternative version

There's an alternative version of What Do You Got floating around. It seems to be some kind of demo or remix.

What do you think?

Here's the normal version for easy comparison.

Letterman, Richie and Dave interview + a trip down memory lane

Bon Jovi performed on "What Do You Got?" and "It's My Life" Late Night with David Letterman overnight. Videos below.

What Do You Got

It's My Life

Here's a cool 10-minute Radio Nova interview with Richie Sambora and David Bryan in Madrid. They talk about the band's sexless marriage, live performances and style through the years, Lady Gaga, touching people's lives, and charity work.

And finally, with the Greatest Hits now out around the world, I guess now is as good a time as any for reflection (I know how Jon hates the word "nostalgia"). NJGirl4523 dropped this into my inbox about a fortnight ago... It's an old series of videos of Jon giving a driving tour of the New Jersey neighbourhoods where he and the band grew up and got their start:

Bon Jovi and X Factor

Time for a few of those posts I've been meaning to write/publish over the past few days but simply haven't had the time. But my final two assignments are due on Monday and after that I'll be able to finish a new header for Blame It On The Love, and of course, blog when I want to. ;)

I'll start with Bon Jovi's appearance on The X Factor in the UK on Sunday, October 31. They performed "Livin' on a Prayer", backed up by the contestants. TV performances are usually very underwhelming so this actually isn't too bad at all; I quite enjoyed it. But I'm very surprised they didn't give "What Do You Got" some airtime. In my opinion, "What Do You Got" was a poor choice of lead single, but miracles can happen with the right promotion so it's a bit curious that they didn't take the opportunity to spruik it.

Speaking of The X Factor, a few weeks ago I blogged about Altiyan Childs' rendition of "Prayer" on the Australian version of the show. A lot has changed in that time... I think Altiyan was an $18 outsider to win going into that week; he's now the $1.60 favourite. And following his performance of Bryan Adams' "Summer of '69" last Sunday, radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands told him "Bon Jovi said to say hello to you, Altiyan". Ronan Keating did mention a couple of weeks ago that Jon had watched the "Prayer" performance on YouTube so that was a pretty cool moment... It's always nice to get a random Jovi reference on Aussie TV. ;)

What Do You Got + I'll Be There For You in Mexico

Bon Jovi played "What Do You Got?" live for the first time at P.C. Richard & Son Theater but the Greatest Hits lead single made its proper tour debut in Mexico City on September 24, 2010.

I noticed a lot of fans were pleasantly surprised when "What Do You Got" debuted, but that was in quite an intimate setting. Do you think the song still works in a bigger venue like a stadium?

And here's a video of "I'll Be There For You" from the same show, with extended outtro/ad libs. It's from the second tier so not the greatest footage, but the sound is pretty good -- I'm listening to it through headphones. If you like, you can close your eyes and pretend you're at the gig.

What Do You Got video on YouTube

For anyone who had problems watching the "What Do You Got?" music video on BonJovi.com or anyone who wants to watch it again, it's now on YouTube. The quality is significantly better too, I might add. ;)

What Do You Got, This Is Our House, Spurs and EMAs

The new "What Do You Got" video is now streaming on BonJovi.com. It's really quite cheesy, focusing on a celebrity couple who seem to have it all but obviously "ain't got love"... but I actually kind of liked it. I was expecting the couple to rush into each other's arms at the end to complete the cliche and it didn't happen, so maybe Bon Jovi's got a few surprises up its sleeve after all. ;) According to Jon, the video was shot in 3D.

BonJovi.com is also streaming the new CBS promo featuring "This Is Our House". This appears to be where the video that Bon Jovi shot in Regina has ended up.

Speaking of videos, here's one that's been doing the rounds a bit. James Swanswick asking Jon about Tottenham Hotspur, and Jon humourously demonstrating his lack of soccer/football knowledge:

Meanwhile, Bon Jovi has been nominated for Best Live Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2010. You can vote for them here. (The other nominees are Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga, Linkin Park and Muse, so our boys are up against stiff competition).

What Do You Got on Grey's Anatomy + Greatest Hits tracks so far

"What Do You Got" is being used in a promotional video for Grey's Anatomy in Canada. Click here to watch it.

As a side note, this now means that two of my favourite bands (the other being The Fray) have been used to promote this show, which I have still never watched. :P

As for the Greatest Hits tracklist, these are the songs that have been revealed so far on Facebook:
Lay Your Hands on Me
Blaze of Glory
Who Says You Can't Go Home
Have a Nice Day
We Weren't Born to Follow
Livin' on a Prayer
Always
It's My Life
Wanted Dead or Alive
You Give Love a Bad Name
Runaway
Bad Medicine
Born to Be My Baby
I'll Be There For You

That's 14 songs and disc one is meant to have 16 including two new tracks, so presumably this is the track list for the first disc minus "What Do You Got" and the other new song. That would mean "Always" is the only song from the 90s on there. I suggested last month that the single disc might be a US-oriented Greatest Hits, with the two disc edition paying more attention to the hits that were bigger internationally, but it's still disappointing if they've ignored both their 90s studio albums on the main version.

Rafael strikes again: What Do You Got? A guitar!

Rafael Luz is a teenage guitarist from Brazil who shot to fame in the Bon Jovi community after recording a solo for "We Weren't Born to Follow" that inspired Richie Sambora to add his own solo to the album version of the song.

Well, Rafael's back. :) Check out his cover of Bon Jovi's latest single "What Do You Got". His version includes an extended guitar solo ending that rocks up the song a little.

New single: What Do You Got - audio and lyrics

Bon Jovi's new single premiered on 95.5 PLJ today and can now be listened to on BonJovi.com. You can also get the mp3 at this link.

Here are the lyrics according to my ears... feel free to make corrections.
Everybody wants something, just a little more
We're makin' a living and what we're living for
Rich man or a poor man, a pawn or a king
You can live on the street, you can rule the whole world
But it don't mean one damn thing

What do you got if you ain't got love?
Whatever you got just ain't enough
You're walkin' a road but you're goin' nowhere
Tryin' to find your way home but there's no one there
Who do you hold in the dark of night?
You wanna give up but it's worth the fight
You can have all the things that you've been dreaming of

If you ain't got someone you're afraid to lose
Everybody needs just one someone to tell them the truth
Maybe I'm a dreamer but I still believe
I believe in hope, I believe that change can get us up off our knees

What do you got if you ain't got love?
Whatever you got just ain't enough
You're walkin' a road but you're goin' nowhere
Tryin' to find your way home but there's no one there
Who do you hold in the dark of night?
You wanna give up but it's worth the fight
You can have all the things that you've been dreaming of
If you ain't got love, it's all just keepin' score
If you ain't got love, what the hell we doin' it for?

I don't wanna have to talk about it
How many songs I gotta sing about it?
How long you gonna live without it?
Why does someone somewhere have to doubt it?
Someday you'll figure it out

What do you got if you ain't got love?
Whatever you got, it just ain't enough
You walk on that road but you're goin' nowhere
Tryin' to find your way home but there's no one there
Who do you hold in the dark of night?
You wanna give up but it's worth the fight
You can have all the things that you've been dreaming of
If you ain't got love, it's all just keepin' score
If you ain't got love, what the hell we doin' it for?

(Whoa oh oh oh) Ohh, what do you got if you ain't got love?
(Whoa oh oh oh) Ohh, what do you got if you ain't got love?
(Whoa oh oh oh) Ohh, what do you got if you ain't got love?
(Whoa oh oh oh)
