Watch Bon Jovi's Rock in Rio 2019 show

I watched a web stream when it was broadcast, and obviously Jon's voice could be loads better but I was pretty happy with his performance as a front man. He can still put on a great show.

You can check out that show below:

Feel free to share your thoughts!

Only one show left of the tour -- in Lima, Peru. Then we'll see what the future and the new album bring. 😉

There was a broadcast of this set after all, though not for international audiences. The band was on fire and seemed to be having a great time. The crowd looked really into it, even on songs I didn't expect them to want to hear. Jon was still patchy, but there were times, like during "Lay Your Hands on Me" and "Keep the Faith" when I really felt like The Frontman was on his way back.

Videos from Rio

I believe Rock in Rio videos are being blocked in certain countries, but here goes.

Tico Torres back in hospital + Bon Jovi Rock in Rio set list 20/9/13

After an emergency appendectomy last week, Tico Torres was again rushed to hospital and will now undergo gall bladder surgery. This statement was issued on the Bon Jovi website:
Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres was rushed to the hospital for a second time with severe pain in his abdomen and will undergo gall bladder surgery. This follows an emergency appendectomy last week. He is expected to return to the stage and the Bon Jovi tour in the very near future.

“Tico Torres has been the heart and soul of our band since we started 30 years ago,” said Jon Bon Jovi. “He’s also one tough SOB and we look forward to him again pounding away brilliantly at the drums on remainder of this and future tours.”

Bon Jovi begins the current leg of their Because We Can tour at “Rock in Rio” in Rio De Janeiro on September 20th. New Jersey native Rich Scannella will fill in for Torres until his doctors clear him to play.

Message From Tico

Hello All,

I would like to say a quick Thank You to all of you who have kept me in your thoughts thus far. There is nothing that can prepare one for a medical emergency but I have been taken especially good care of and would again like to thank all my doctors and health care professionals.

I am very disappointed not to be able to perform but our friend Rich Scannella will stand in for me. You are in good hands.

I will be there in spirit and back on stage in soon

Enjoy the show. #RockinRio

-Tico Torres

Meanwhile, Bon Jovi's tour resumed at the Rock in Rio festival with Rich Scannella on drums and Phil X continuing in lieu of Richie Sambora, leaving only two official members of Bon Jovi on stage -- David Bryan and Jon (though anyone who knows me knows I think Hugh McDonald deserves to be a proper member by now). The set list was as follows:

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Rock in Rio - September 20, 2013
  1. That's What the Water Made Me
  2. You Give Love a Bad Name
  3. Raise Your Hands
  4. Runaway
  5. Lost Highway
  6. Whole Lot of Leavin'
  7. It's My Life
  8. Because We Can
  9. What About Now
  10. We Got It Going On
  11. Keep the Faith
  12. (You Want To) Make a Memory
  13. Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars
  14. We Weren't Born to Follow
  15. Who Says You Can't Go Home
  16. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
/ Start Me Up - Rolling Stones cover
  17. Bad Medicine
/ Shout! - Isley Brothers cover
  18. Encore:
  19. Wanted Dead or Alive
  20. Have a Nice Day
  21. Livin' on a Prayer
  22. Always

I'm currently out of town and missed the live stream, but much of the feedback I've heard on Bon Jovi hasn't been great. Did you watch it, or were you at the show? What did you think?

Videos from Rock in Rio Madrid

My favourite videos from Bon Jovi's Rock in Rio Madrid show (higher quality captures than the webcast).

BAD MEDICINE / ROADHOUSE BLUES - A really fun performance, with Jon even showing off a little Shakira hip action. "Bad Medicine" has really freshened up this tour.

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE - Video and audio are slightly out of sync but it's still a magical performance, and not just from the band either. The strong crowd sang the first verse and chorus as a "solo".

LIVIN' ON A PRAYER - Simply awesome. I thought Jon's vocals held up very well too!

HALLELUJAH

KEEP THE FAITH

Rock in Rio Madrid webcast

If you missed it or want to watch it again, the full webcast of Bon Jovi's Rock in Rio Madrid show can now be viewed on Justin.tv. ("Blood on Blood" and most of "We Weren't Born to Follow" were not streamed/broadcast but the rest of the concert was).

Part 1 is at this link.
Part 2 is at this link.

Enjoy! The video quality is not the greatest but the boys sound pretty good.

Videos are also rolling on Hath's Circle Tour blog.

This show was streamed live and broadcast on local TV. Not a bad set as far as festivals go and the performance is what counts the most, especially for a show like this.

Bon Jovi for Rock in Rio Madrid

Apparently Bon Jovi will headline the Rock in Rio Madrid festival on June 4, 2010. The website is in Spanish, but you can paste the URL into Google Translate or something (It won't be perfect English but you'll get the general idea).

LH Magic Memory #13: Rock in Rio

Bon Jovi headlined the Rock in Rio festival in Lisbon, Portugal (not Rio de Janeiro as the name might suggest) on May 31, 2008. It was shorter than a regular gig and contained a pretty ordinary set but the energy levels for the first Portuguese Bon Jovi show since 1995 more than made up for that. The concert was also broadcast live on TV, radio and the internet, giving fans around the world a chance to experience this truly amazing performance. To be honest, I was expecting this show to be on auto-pilot. After all, it was "just a festival" and was taking place a mere 16 hours before the band's Barcelona show. History shows I should have given our boys a bit more credit!

Note: The network that broadcasted this show has been pretty strict with its copyright, so if you have trouble watching these videos, they've probably been removed from YouTube. (I only wish the same would happen to that horrendous Tokyo pro shot from January!) Moreover, this is just a selection of videos so do yourself a favour by going to YouTube and searching for Bon Jovi Rock in Rio if you haven't seen this show.

RAISE YOUR HANDS - From New York to Lisbon, Portugal!

ALWAYS - Nice tight performance. Pretty good singing from the crowd.

WE GOT IT GOIN' ON - Jon gets "patriotic" with the crowd. This is probably my least favourite song from the Lost Highway album but it rocked here.

BAD MEDICINE / SHOUT - This medley is overplayed but this video shows why the band keeps playing it. Wow.
