Bon Jovi East Rutherford set list 29/7/13

Bon Jovi wrapped up this leg of the Because We Can Tour at MetLife Stadium with virtually the same set as the previous show at the same venue two nights earlier. Well, These Days was swapped out for I Love This Town, and Dry County was added to the encore, but those are pretty much the only differences. To be honest, I'm a little flabbergasted that they were so stagnant between consecutive shows at a stadium in New Jersey -- even more so given it was the final show of a leg, with the next concert over six weeks away.

Were you at the show?

  1. I wasn't there, but a friend who was said it was an amazing show. She was gushing about how they played "Runaway" which made no sense to me until she said it was her first show in 30 years of fandom. I have to remind myself sometimes that while I am not thrilled with their set lists anymore, somewhere out there in the audiences are first-timers who are giddy just to be at the dance.

  2. I was there and was a little disappointed at the set list as well, although it was a good show, as usual. But a show in NJ could/should have been better

  3. Althought there are a number of people at each show who are seeing the band for the first time, it is fair to say that the majority of the crowd on any given night have seen the band before, and many of them at some stage on this tour. In NJ this is probably more likely than anywhere else. To keep a standard set (which has been the vast majority of this tour) is only going to disappoint the masses.

Jon has often publicly pumped up his (and the band's) own tyres by talking about not playing the same thing night after night, and by constantly changing the set... well, that has disappeared this tour. I understand they have been limited by what Phil X can cover, however for some time they have been merely rearranging the order of songs more than making substantial changes. Jon is not in the same league as someone like Springsteen when it comes to changing the set each night, and being able to play songs from all parts of their career.

To get two nights in NJ and virtually no change between them, and no change from the standard set is very disappointing. Combining that with the constant references to the band needing to "have some fun" with the Kings of Suburbia show makes me think Jon is phoning it in at the moment.

Unless we see Richie back for the Australian leg, I am pretty sure I will be able to pick the set now for my Adelaide show!

  4. I agree with everything posted on here. I really wish this was the last show of the entire tour. There are several things about this tour that have been very tiring, as a fan.

  5. I was there, it was a great performance and the place was rockin'. I miss Richie's voice as part of the band and brand, Jon's vocals were in prime shape - best in a long time in fact - and he looked great as usual.
