Some of you might have noticed that I haven't posted videos from the past couple of shows. Well, for one thing it's hard to know what to showcase on the blog when Bon Jovi have been playing largely unremarkable "vanilla" sets, and I've been too busy to watch everything that gets uploaded in order to filter out the best. That's not to say I wouldn't be happy if I got a set like the one above when the band hits Australia. I'd be hearing songs from The Circle, an album I love, for the first time; there would be five other songs I'd never experienced before, including one from my beloved These Days; and I'd see Jon singing "I'll Be There For You" for the first time. And from all reports and what I've seen on YouTube, the band's actual performances have been great. But when you're not actually AT the show, all you really get is the set list on paper (screen, but you know what I mean) and there hasn't been a lot of variation between shows.

I've said this before but it really is not that difficult to appease 99% of diehard fans. All you need is one or two rarities each night. I've followed several PBPs that went something along the lines of "Boring set, boring set, boring set, *insert rare song* OH MY GOD THIS IS THE GREATEST SET EVER!".

It's true that not everyone will like those songs but you could say that about any song in the set. I know Jon hates the thought of a "lull" during a concert, but then isn't that why he plays abominations like "We Got It Going On" (which, by the way, could be rotated with something like "One Wild Night" or "99 in the Shade" for a similar crowd effect)?

So for complete media guides (including videos) of each show, head to Hath's Circle Tour blog. We're all part of a community here in the Bon Jovi blogosphere and there's no reason why we can't share resources. ;) I'll of course continue to post set lists and other news/interesting things, and embed videos when we get some gems or if there's something kind of unique or cool about a performance. :)

  1. You've really hit the nail on the head here. When the tour got underway with a few jems from Bon Jovi and 7800, I really thought that, considering the magnitude of this tour, they were going to pull some real rarities out of the bag. The crowd's they are pulling now are going to be 95% die-hards (they have to be with ticket prices like theirs) so surely, as you say, it really wouldn't be that difficult to stick in something special every night and change it up a bit. They have such an extensive back catalogue to pull from, I just wish they would!

  2. I think they could use the opening spot to rotate various songs - One Wild Night; Bounce; I Believe; Starting All Over Again (Although I know Jon has said he would struggle with this one live these days). They could (as mentioned above) use the "We Got It Going On" spot for party songs like "99 In the Shade"; "Wild in the Streets"; "Raise your Hands"; I would drop "Hallelujah" from the set - it has been done to death. Use it to play some of their original ballads. Lastly, make the opening song of the encore another rotating gem - bring out the songs from the box set, or something like "Let It Rock"; "Las Cigarette"; "These Days"

    Just my thoughts...

  3. I agree with what all of y'all have said. I'm disappointed that they have stopped pulling out songs from the first 2 records. I feel like Jon teased us and now is taking it all back. I'll still be excited for my show on Thursday night, but sad that it's next to totally unlikely that "Only Lonely" is going to make an appearance. Among other songs.

  4. Yawn.....
Another incredibly predictable setlist. What happened to the promise of the "oldies"? I think if they played some of the old songs as well as other gems that we hardly hear they would probably get more "diehard" fans who will then go out and buy the other records. I am looking forward to seeing them in Australia but sure as hell hope we get a little variety. They have awesome songs - why don't they use them??

  5. Hey anonymous, I just saw them in Tampa and they played the "oldies" the printed set list is not the set list that is played, oh and why don't you identify yourself, just start signing annoying instead lol

  6. Okay I didn't mean to sound so mad but I just don't understand a diehard fan complaining about a setlist when I am just happy that I can AFFORD to go and that my town or Country was on the Tour list. Jon does not stick to the printed setlist he changes it according to crowd response. He even takes requests from the audience. If you care enough to write about them and NOT be afraid to post your name and opinion then I wouldn't complain because that's bad Karma man, also if you started seeing the band in the 90's then I guess you would be disappointed in not hearing something from them, but diehards started with Jon in the 80's 84-89. Really in 76-77 when Jon actually wrote and shopped "Runaway". Lainey
