Bon Jovi nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Well, it's official. I have fallen asleep and teleported to an insane alternate universe where Bon Jovi -- loathed for nearly three decades by the all-knowing all-mattering supreme being known as the Music Critic -- is nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In fact, this strange universe is so disorienting that our pretty boy laughing stock band is even getting write-ups like this:
Beyond the numbers – over 120 million albums sold (more than 34 platinum titles cumulative in the U.S. alone), more than 2,600 concerts performed in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans, including The Lost Highway World Tour, ranked as 2008’s #1 top-selling tour, and 2010’s 30-country, 135-show The Circle World Tour – there is also Bon Jovi’s enormous influence on innumerable young bands seeking to follow in their footsteps. Bon Jovi steadfastly follows their own instincts, ignoring obvious trends and providing a model for other bands and musicians just starting out on their careers.
Oh, how I wish I never had to wake up to the cold harsh reality of Bon Jovi being snubbed, derided and urinated on yet again!

But in all serious, Bon Jovi has in fact been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2011, in their third year of eligibility. We all know the Rock Hall doesn't really mean squat and that Bon Jovi won't actually be inducted this year, but it's still nice to get a spot of recognition.

The other 2011 nominees (including some who should already be there and others whose contribution to rock is a bit questionable) are:
  • Alice Cooper
  • Beastie Boys
  • Chic
  • Neil Diamond
  • Donovan
  • Dr. John
  • J. Geils Band
  • LL Cool J
  • Darlene Love
  • Laura Nyro
  • Donna Summer
  • Joe Tex
  • Tom Waits
  • Chuck Willis
