Richie Sambora speaks (finally)... to RumorFix

It's taken almost three months, but we've finally heard (as opposed to read and wondered) something from Richie Sambora's mouth about why the heck he isn't on tour with Bon Jovi. He spoke to RumorFix at a party for his clothing line Nikki Rich. Richie indicated that there were "family issues" (the family being his band) but he is confident everything will work out and he'll be back at some point later in the tour. He also got particularly defensive about any suggestion that he wasn't part of Bon Jovi anymore.

Richie Sambora On Return To Bon Jovi -- Exclusive

The sound is not great but this interview would indicate there has been some kind of dispute with Jon or the band from Richie's perspective, even though Jon has said they didn't have a fight and Richie just didn't show up in Calgary. I summarised what we had managed to glean about Samboragate at the end of May.

So.... Thoughts?

  1. After seeing a show without him... Jon needs him. There is really no Bon Jovi without Richie. I saw Jon struggling and if Richie was there he could have done a song himself, Jon would take a break to recharge for a bit. Richie is the soul of the band and I never thought I'd say this.

    Nothing can replace his presence.

  2. You're right Bon Jovi is not Bon Jovi without Richie. Jon can still put on a good show, but it's not a Bon Jovi show.

This interview is weird. He's not acting like himself. His speech isn't the same... and with the strange constant lip licking... weird.

I hate to be negative, but I don't see how the band will be the same after this. Richie (as much as I love the guy... he's always been my favorite member of the band) cannot be relied upon. How can they plan another album/tour not knowing if Richie will show up?

  3. This is more annoying than not knowing anything! He thinks he'll just "pop" in whenever he feels like it huh? Bull-----! I cannot afford to go to concerts but I do go to Bon Jovi. Frankly, I don't care if I see Sambora in October anymore. His cavalier attitude disgusts me. Some of these people had not seen the band in 20 years. I saw PhilX two years ago, the last time Richie took a hiatus and he was excellent. No, he's not Richie, but neither is Richie anymore!

Hey all, to those who saw that interview from the fashion show it was about my hopes. Nothing's really happening yet...

I think he is starting to look like a schizophrenic asshole, agreeing he doesn't seem like his old self anymore...not sure the reason.

    2. He hopes that he and Jon can resolve their issues by September. Don't know why you have such a hard time understanding that? He was pretty clear in that interview about what the issues are and about what is keeping him from returning.

  4. I think Richie just wanted to spend some time with his daughter because you never know how much time you have left.

  5. I have just watched that clip for the first time, and I think Richie gave away probably the gist of the dispute at the end with his comments about the writing credits and producing credits. I am sure that it is connected to that again and how much credit Richie gets as opposed to Jon. His instant reaction to the question of not being part of the band was to make his argument regarding his contribution over the existence of the band.

Earlier when quizzed about the issues he thought and decided upon "I can't say" but for me he gave it away when he instinctively responded to the final question.
