Yeah, it is guitar driven. Lyrically, it is on par with most of BJ's 80s stuff... or poison or motley crew or guns n roses. It is not poetry but there is certainly more to like than just the guitar riff.

The verse's melody is kind of quick, and not terribly melodic but the chorus is catchy. And the bridge kicks ass. It is 80's hair metal, nothing more, nothing less. The only difference between HBT and LYHOM is that LYHOM is more polished and produced and packaged as a hit.bounce442http://www.sundancephotographyokc.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-483330837845516197.post-26493098526078206202011-07-17T11:02:44.274+08:002011-07-17T11:02:44.274+08:00"IMO "embarrassingly dumb" would be..."IMO "embarrassingly dumb" would be a much better description for something like We Got It Goin' On which they insist on playing at virtually every show. "

WGIGO is a pointless song to me. I feel like they needed another country collab and just made shit up as they went..
But it's still melodic and catchy, maybe just cause it's so derivative and familiar and like a 100 other melodies. HT, when I first heard it, was embarrassingly dumb because no part of it, other than the amped up guitar, made any sense melody or harmony wise. To my ear the whole thing is jarring. It doesn't work. So imagine my surprise to hear they not only actually played that live quite regularly while ignoring other songs, but that people are missing it now that they dont! Man talk about rarities getting cast aside for that! I know IIWYM will never ever be played, but I just love that song. Instead of mindless guitar slinging, which some people state is enough for them (!), there is an awesome staccato-like solo that actually takes the song from point A to point B. Again, imo.

LYHOM is a great song. Not lyrically mind-blowing 'course, but I've always seen it as a good song that stands on its own, and if a random band were to cover it, I feel like it would come across well.
Live, I totally agree it suits Jon more. Live in any form though, it also loses the incredibly layered production and the HEYs and the almost gospel like chorus. But I'll take it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-483330837845516197.post-18444059863434754912011-07-17T05:48:04.113+08:002011-07-17T05:48:04.113+08:00Lee-Ann, well said... total agreement.Lee-Ann, well said... total agreement.bounce442http://www.sundancephotographyokc.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-483330837845516197.post-25156006970051110242011-07-17T00:52:49.227+08:002011-07-17T00:52:49.227+08:00TBH I didn't particularly like Homebound Train...TBH I didn't particularly like Homebound Train when I first got New Jersey but it started to grow on me about 2 or 3 years ago... And since they've never really dropped it, no one was beginning for it to come or go either way.

I don't know why bring up LFS when it's a ditty at best, something that even the band laughed straight through. And no one is screaming for them to play it.

HT to me is beyond dumb, but as I said, it's a personal opinion, one that tends to forget just how much a few guitar licks mean to your average rock fan when they can overpower dumb woo woos and earbleedingly whiny chorus.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-483330837845516197.post-66006747719910029092011-07-16T08:02:26.190+08:002011-07-16T08:02:26.190+08:00You are right, being that Love for Sale offers so ...You are right, being that Love for Sale offers so much... and I'll Be There For You is so deep and original. Aren't the lyrics kind of rehashed from I'd Die For You?

Homebouncd Train is far from the best track on NJ but at least it is something new from recent tours. And the worst from NJ, KTF, TD is better than 90-95% from their last two albums. So yes, I was excited about HB Train.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-483330837845516197.post-43506615736776858742011-07-16T01:54:04.305+08:002011-07-16T01:54:04.305+08:00Before I came online I used to think HT is one of ...Before I came online I used to think HT is one of the most embarrassingly dumb songs (WOO WOO!!!) theyve ever unfortunately written.

Apparently not. And he seemed so comfortable with it. I never thought Richie's IBTFY was that great... probably better than anything else he has done in recent years. However, I will take These Days anyway I can get it.

That being said, I think if he won't do any solo stuff, then This Ain't A Love Song would be a great choice.bounce442http://www.sundancephotographyokc.comnoreply@blogger.com
