Bon Jovi Adelaide set list 11/12/13

Bon Jovi played in Adelaide for the first time in 18 years. There were some changes to the set for anyone who might have been at the Melbourne shows, and Huey McDonald even got to sing for quite possibly the first time since 1995 -- during an epic Sleep medley.

  1. I was there. It was a very good show. The energy level of the guys seemed really high, and they generally seemed like they were really enjoying it. The crowd response at times was excellent too. When We Were Beautiful reappearing was a nice bonus, and Work For The Working Man was very appropriate given the General Motors/Holden closure announcement earlier that day. If the inclusion of Working Man wasn't intentional, it was a very fitting coincidence.

The Sleep medley was outstanding and probably the highlight of the show! Jon made the point to say Hugh singing was a world first.

Although a number of people used the Diamond Ring - Make a Memory section for drink refills and toilet breaks, I found "Whole Lot of Leavin'" to be the (dare I say) disappointing part. It seems to lose the energy of the first group of songs, and it is not particularly known by the crowd generally. It seems like the guys have to really work at building things back up after that.

"Who Says..." was fun for the fact that a couple were brought on stage and joined Jon at the mic, but otherwise it didn't get the crowd reaction that Jon expected. Which I understand is a common theme at shows outside the US.

Jon's voice got better as the show went on. It kicked in to gear about halfway through the show, and was quite good from When we were Beautiful onwards.

The one thing that did stand out to me was the absence of Richie's backing vocals. Having gotten so used to hearing Richie's voice, there were times when it almost sounded odd to hear David or Phil.

    1. Thanks for your review. I, too, found Whole Lot of Leavin' a flat spot both nights in Melbourne. They'd be better off going straight from Lost Highway (which enough people seem to know) into It's My Life (the hit). IMO the lull that comes with the 2 new songs afterwards wouldn't be as pronounced if they weren't having to get the crowd going again post-Leavin'.

Glad you got a good show overall though, it's been a long time between drinks for Adelaide! :)
