30 Rock - Liz meets JBJ

In this preview of the upcoming 30 Rock episode (which will air February 11 in the United States), Jack (Alec Baldwin) sits in the Hot Box and Liz (Tina Fey) meets Jon Bon Jovi.

"You shouldn't sign anything without reading it first. I made that mistake once and I ended up NBC's artist in residence."

Classic.

  1. I have a theory about the Artist in Residence thing. I think it cost them the Super Bowl half-time show this year (Super Bowl was on CBS). I know they had talked about the half-time show for at least two years now and didn't get it either year.

Just my theory though. I wish they hadn't done the NBC thing. It has really hindered promotion on what is a very good album.

  2. Regardless of whether or not it hindered promotion in itself, I'm far from convinced they used the opportunity effectively to market this album. Uninspired performances of a song that's already been out for 3 months and sounds an awful lot like It's My Life or Have a Nice Day, over and over, to people who either already have your album or were never going to buy it. Then let's play It's My Life too... because that's going to get people to buy the new album.

They could have been a little more imaginative but they weren't. They could have played the whole album over the course of the residency... debuted the Superman Tonight video during it (or a "making of" if it hadn't been finished yet)... anything. The point being, there was nothing that set this residency apart from any other TV appearance, except that it was restricted to NBC networks.

At any rate, it is a shame because, as you say, The Circle is a good album.
